Grilled Brunch at Grillshack

Sundays are made for being lazy, they are the only really day of the week we can relax and potter around and do nothing, it’s on these days that I normally cook up a storm in the kitchen and prepare more elaborate dishes or spend all day making a batch of stock. Heaven.

Burger time @ Bukowski Grill

I’ve just realised how inactive I’ve been recently, this is in part because I’m a lazy so and so, and mostly because I’ve been for the last few months writing copy like a mad man for a tour operator I’m now working for.

Last Chance Saloon for Tonkotsu

I’ve been a few times to Tonkotsu and have always gone with high expectations that it will be much better than the last time I ate, but I’ve always left feeling disappointed.
This time though on a post gym meal, I left deeply disappointed that I’ve decided I will not be returning again.

A Rant

I’ve waited several weeks before I could put finger to keyboard and rant about an experience we had at Mishkins.
I feared that before now I would have just gone off on one and ended up really bitching and being hateful, which I’m not but it was a shit experience.

Cafe Sizzles, but not with me

I’m a big lover of the good ol’ English caff and try and frequent them as often as possible, but with trying to keep a bit of middle age spread in check, it’s not as often as I would like.

Southern Cooking @ Joe's

Joe’s Southern Kitchen and Bar opened last month, aptly on the 4th July, pure marketing genius in my opinion.
Previously known as Navajo Joe, which I never got to eat at, Joe’s Southern Kitchen and Bar is brining the authentic taste of the American Deep South to Covent Garden.

Lobzilla is here again

I’ve always had fun at Belgo’a, from team nights out where the generous Mike Gooley would regard us with a few hundred pounds to go and get drunk and have fun after a few months of happy selling.
Belgo’s became a popular night out spot at Trailfinders, not only because we ate well, but we were all and they probably still are lovers of great beer.

Post Holiday Blues @ Four Seasons

Well it’s been a few weeks now since we returned from China and yes I will get around to blogging about it one day soon.

Que Viet on the Pho Mile

I’m still puzzled why it’s taken me so long to enter the doors of Que Viet, I mean I must have walked past it a thousand times and for some reason I have never entered.

Invitation for some French Food

I don’t need to tell you about Café Rouge, the French Style Brassiere chain serving up Gallic fare to us Brits, I think we all know about this chain.

Back home with a burger

Well I cannot say I’m glad to be back after 3 fantastic weeks wandering through the northern reaches of Yunnan Province. Hpefully more on that at a later date I hope, as I’ll try and let you all know what a wonderful time I had in China and Hong Kong

Friday, 3 May 2013

We're in Hong Kong

Yes after 4 long years we are back in one of my favourite cities on Earth. We have 4 quick nights here before moving onto Yunnan and up to the fabled Shangri La for some quality R n R.

What We Ate Last Night : Coca Cola Bar-B-Q Chicken Wings

It's been a long while since I last posted a recipe. It was something I was meaning to do on a regular basis, but I am anything but regular.

Too Hot To Handle @ Bi Bim Bap

Bi Bim Bap is a bright, colourful and fun Korean restaurant in Soho that specialises in, as the name suggests Bi Bim Bap.

The Legendary Burgers @ The Hard Rock Cafe

Having received an invite to sample some of the burgers on the new Legendary Burger menu at the Hard Rock Café, it was something I couldn’t pass up.

Sunday Roast and Beer @ The North Pole

Renovated and reopened last year and renamed the North Pole, this craft beer pub with over 22 beers and ciders on draught and more again in bottles behind the bar, this is slowly becoming my new hangout.

Brunch Heaven @ Salvation Jane

I’ve eaten at Salvation Jane on many an occasion, but like most places in London I have forgotten to do a write up.

Easter Time with Hotel Chocolat

Well Eastertide is upon and this merry springtime festival is a very good excuse to eat copious amounts of chocolate in the form of fun time Easter eggs.

De La Panza

I’ve been so bloody busy over the last nine months that everything else in my life has taken a back seat.
I’ve not been going to a lot of restaurants recently, I haven’t been cooking a lot either as my belly seems to have been filled with a lot of Singapore Fried Rice and chicken and chips.

Cay Tre in Soho

For some reason I thought I had already reviews the Soho branch of Cay Tre, but it seems not, which is a bit odd, as I’ve eaten there on several occasions.

Thursday, 7 March 2013

Sit Down Banh Mi, it's wrong, wrong, wrong....

After sampling Banh Mi’s at both Keu and Banh Mi 11’s shops in Shoreditch I have come to the conclusion that the only way to eat Banh Mi is out on the street.

Salt Beef Sandwiches

Going to Golders Green these days not only brings out the Jewishness in me, if there is any that is, but also some good memories.

Friday, 1 March 2013

Dirty Burger

I am a big fan of short menus, but Dirty Burger’s has to be the shortest I’ve ever seen in London.
With one item on the menu, cheeseburger and 2 sides, it could be the shortest menu ever. Gonna be hard to beat.

Tuesday, 26 February 2013

Hot Pho @ Cay Tre

I’m a big lover of the Cay Tre Vietnamese Kitchens, as they style themselves. Viet Grill and Cay Tre in Soho have given some of the best Pho and Bun Cha I’ve tasted in London.

Song Que - A Revisit

A quick spot of lunch today at Song Que was welcome after a pretty crap few days at work.
I was only in the area because the Algerian Coffee Shop in Soho have been out of Vietnamese Coffee for a good few weeks now and are not expecting another shipment for a couple more weeks.

Tonkotsu Heaven @ Ippudo in New York

Ippudo was definitely one of the highlights of our weeklong stay in New York last March, yes it’s taken me a long while to finally come to this point.

Wednesday, 16 January 2013

Sandwich Heaven at Katz

It’s been nearly a year since we were in New York and I still haven’t written about Ippudo or Katz. Disgraceful.
Shame on me as these were the two places we really wanted to eat at, and I’m glad we did as they lived up to expectations.

Sunday, 13 January 2013

A Little Slice of Italy in South London

Finally after a long time of almost trying to eat at Zucca, we finally made it through its doors for an incredible night of food and drink.

Tuesday, 8 January 2013

Posh Chicken and Chips

Mark Hix, some would say is a man with his finger on the pulse, knowing exactly what the paying punters want and gladly gives it to them at a price, especially the suited and booted.

Pho @ Cu Tu

Standing on the site of the old Hung Viet Restaurant is the new Cu Tu Restaurant. I’d never eaten in Hung Viet, so I cannot say if this is a new incarnation to avoid some taxes or is a totally new gaff in its own right, but it certainly has a lived in feel about it already.
