Delhi Grill - A Revisit

We haven’t eaten at the Delhi Grill for a long time now, it seem to reach such a high status with some bloggers that when I ate there, well I was kinda let down, but then I realized all those who praised it actually ate there on a freebie. I learnt my lesson.
But I also ate there after an extensities trip through India and to be honest the food at Delhi Grill was pretty below par after sampling great food for several weeks.
I’ve been in the mood for some fine Indian food for a while and I was a hankering for it big time.
So we found ourselves on the 73 heading towards Angel, and the thought struck me about Delhi Grill.
The food is as it was before really, so knowing it isn’t the best Indian food on the planet, but it isn’t just another curry house, they are trying something different, not only with the décor but the food also.
The menu is short and sweet and as they say that most are recipes from aunts and cousins…

We did ask for the chicken Karabi, a spicy chicken dish bursting with layered flavors, but whether it was late they messed up or thy though we wouldn’t notice, but we got the chicken makhani, my favourite butter chicken dish. I dd notice but I didn’t care. It was pretty good, the chicken was not dry and actually had been marinated and cooked in the sauce. Good work guys.
We also opted for some bhindi, stir fried okra with an onion and spice base. It’d been a while since I have had these little fingers of delight.
I’m not a fan of their dhal still, it’s so soupy and not how I like mine. I prefer a thicker version, where with a roti you can scoop the lentils out. This one you need a spoon.

All the dishes we had were pretty good, even with the mix up, but the star of the show was definitely the bhindi, really good, reminded me of the good times of working for that company with its great cooks, who let me steal their food at lunchtimes. Good times.
The food hasn’t changed, as I saw in the lentils, but it is still pretty good, but definitely not as good as everyone else makes out, but it’s a changed from your normal flop wallpapered curry house. Thankfully it is still open up on Chapel Market

As one of those bloggers who recommended/s it very highly, I've paid my way. The exception is one recent lunch visit, and I'd already been singing it's praises long before. Easier to be condescending about freebies though, no?

Also, I think it's fair to say, as a North Indian, that I've got a pretty good idea of the cuisine, and I stand by my assertion that this is one of the best places in London to get food that tastes like what my family eat at home, and what one can find in the canteens and casual restaurants in the region. I can't claim to be an expert, but I grew up eating non-vegetarian North Indian food on very regular basis. The food at Delhi Grill absolutely compares to what my family cook, here and in India.

Of course, I have no idea what you ate on your several week trip.
